Barrie Wilkins

Barrie Wilkins

The Gaffer! Founder and DJ of Floorplay Events, Barrie has enjoyed a very diverse experience of clubbing both as a DJ and as a Promoter. Barrie started out as a DJ over 6years ago and has a huge love for House Music. Since being presented with the Tom Wilson Award at the Radio Forth Awards in what he says is still his proudest achievement to date, Barrie has gone from strength to strength.

Anyone who has witnessed one of Barrie’s sets will see that he bleeds passion for music. His sets are packed full of energy and suspense. It’s that energy and suspense that has helped him pack out dance floors across the country and also hold down Residencies with the likes of Miss MoneyPennys and Fierce Angels.

Barrie has been lucky enough to have supported, played and been on the line-up with some of the world’s biggest artists such as Paul Van Dyke, Eddie Halliwell, Judge Jules, Mark Doyle (founder of Hed Kandi) & Riley & Durrant.

When asked what he loves about dj’n the most Barrie responded with “I get a Buzz from other people enjoying themselves, feeling a reaction back from the crowd for me is one of the best feelings you can ever feel.”

2011 looks set to be Barrie’s biggest year to date with his first dates in Ibiza now confirmed.

Diskokitten DJs

Diskokitten DJ's PhotoDiskokitten DJ’s are the collective alias of Jason Cortez (Edinburgh Rocks Best DJ 2010) and Andy Opel. Infamous for their energy, tongue-in-cheek playlists, home brewed mashups and reedits they are a local talent that needs to be sampled.

While many DJ’s look to be cutting edge, Opel & Cortez combine their spectrum of music tastes into their own eclectic set of current and underground dance, bootlegs, mashups and their own collection of re-edited battle weapons.

Over the five years of Diskokitten the duo were infamous for their weird and wonderful collection of bootlegs, intros and explosive back to back sets. The pair have also played for many other promoters in Edinburgh, Dunfermilne and even for “one night only” at the Rock Bottom club in the United Arab Emirates.

After retiring the Diskokitten club night to concentrate on production the duo have embraced the new Digital DJ technology to take their sets to the next level. If you want to sample something a little different its time to check out a Diskokitten set.

Krystle

KrystleKrystle has been involved in radio since the young age of 13. After years of answering the phones and making (bad) cups of tea, they finally let her loose on the air!

She now presents Friday Night Floorfillers and Saturday Nights 10pm to 1am.

Krystle won “Best Regular Music Programme” at the European Radio Awards in 2007, Gold Sony for “Specialist Music Programme” at the Sony Radio Awards in 2008 and Silver World Medal Winner at the New York Radio Awards in 2009 for “Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program”.

Liam Goldie

Liam GoldieLiam first broke into the club scene in 2007 when he co-launched and became Resident DJ for the very popular Our House Night. A night which subsequently went on to run every month for almost 2 years. It was a show of the night’s popularity when Liam was invited to guest at several other club nights across the UK in cities such as Aberdeen, London and Perth to name a few.

Liam’s involvement with Floorplay began in early 2010. After submitting a very smooth yet upbeat vocal house mix, it was very evident that Liam would offer even more diversity and fit perfect into the Floorplay Team.

It was then he was snapped up and secured his Residency with Floorplay. Liam’s sexy soulful sound is loved by through hundreds of people who flock through the doors week by week.

Darren Connell

Darren ConnellDarren started DJing back in 2008 after he was given his break at one of the Capital’s biggest Funky House nights, Flaunt. Darren went on to become a resident for Flaunt and their sister Bank Holiday Sunday brand Strictly Frisky. In 2009 Darren became a part-time resident of Floorplay, another of Edinburgh’s biggest club nights. Soon after this Darren had a brief stint at Edinburgh’s fastest growing student night, Enigma, before taking a break from DJ’in throughout 2010.

Darren has since agreed to become a full-time resident at Floorplay kicking off 2011 in style where he will make his return to the DJ’in scene at Floorplay’s New Years Eve party at The Lane, something he is very much looking forward to. Throughout his short DJing career Darren has graced the decks at many of Edinburgh’s venues including Berlin (now The Lane), Ego, Faith, Massa, Why Not, Shanghai & Bacaro & through in Glasgow at Byblos.

Darren loves house music and this is evident in his sets – playing a blend of uplifting vocal and electro house he thrives on rocking the dance floors. Darren’s influences are David Guetta, Pete Tong, Axwell, Afrojack, Avicii and not to mention the local talent that is Tommy Kay who Darren has been a great admirer of.
